Love it!

This type of format is essential for the struggling readers and ELL students. My students loved the stories and expressive artwork! So many decodeable readers are very boring and many times make no sense to the reader; not these stories.
As a teacher I loved the way the stories built on and how quickly my students were starting to read them independently. You could see their confidences growing :)
Highly recommend as a supplement to whatever phonics and reading program that is being used.
Great for parents to use at home to build your child's fluency!

The Hop on Reading books are full of funny stories and my son loves the recurring characters

The Hop on Reading books are full of funny stories and my son loves the recurring characters. At first I thought the books were just an opportunity to read more with my son, but then I read about the structured approach to the wording and rhythm in the stories. Very impressive and makes me want to get the entire series as my son is learning to read!

Turning point for struggling reader

I volunteer to read with 1st graders each week and observe a wide range of reading ability in the classroom. I am not a trained teacher, and my volunteer duties are limited to giving the students more opportunity to read from their core curriculum materials rather than "teaching" them to read. With the given materials, some of the struggling readers become very discouraged and begin guessing at the words or give up to let me fill in the blanks for them.
Outside of school, I had the opportunity to share the Hop On Reading series with one of the struggling readers from the class. Because of the way the Hop On Reading stories were structured, this student was able to sound out the words and remember them later through repetition. Finally, she was experiencing success! I believe this boost in self-confidence has changed her reading experience in the classroom. She’s more willing to work through the tough words and looks for the patterns and repetition she experienced with the Hop On books.
I highly recommend this series for early readers!
