LOVE, LOVE, LOVED IT!!!!

I honestly could NOT GET ENOUGH of "The Last Days"! There's SO MANY roads this Book can branch off into & I can't wait to see which roads/directions Gay Chelsa choses first!

I can't tell you how many times I had my knees tucked up to my chin, with these hides of Zombie nail biting scenes/parts! SCARY!!!

However, I can't tell you how relieved I was for Little Kimmy!!! I was screaming "Nooo!!!" & then finally I got to scream "Yessss!!"

This entire Book, in my opinion, was better than "World War Z"!! I think certain parts I was hyperventilating, but couldn't stop reading! Haha! SO GOOD!!

I haven't checked yet, if there's already a 2nd Book waiting for me to buy... If not the wait will be hard, but I'll DEFINITELY be excitedly waiting for it to come out!

To all of you die-hard Zombie Book/Movie LOVERS, you NEED to read this book!!

Decent story, lots of little detractors

The story itself was okay. I do get a little tired of the standard, zombie apocalypse starts and the hero struggles to get home thing. But there were lots of little things that detracted and distracted.

It is the USS Ronald Reagan, not Regan. That is a pretty big mistake. And it is Morse code, not Morris code. For the entire book, only the two lead male characters had and were using cell phones, the wives didn't. It was like only the men had cells. The two women characters weren't annoying, as they often are in zombie novels. They weren't very inspiring or memorable, either.

There were some typos, not tons. But the formatting was messed up throughout the book. Paragraph breaks were almost entirely missing. It was easy to get used to, but not excusable.

For $2.49, however, it is probably worth it for most readers.

The grammar and misspelled words didn't bother me as much as the naivety of the two brothers and their families. Come on, no weapon's and they are both trying to get home where everything is sunshine and roses. No more undead and they constantly place themselves in a position where they are surrounded by the undead. I finally got through it but no more.

About the Author
Award winning Australian author Alison Stuart always wanted to be a writer. Her family moved from Kenya, where she had been born, to Australia in the late 1960s. Alison studied Law and Arts (majoring in history) at university and has worked all her life as a lawyer, both in private practice and in a range of different organisations, including the military and the emergency services. A fatal attraction for men in uniform (including her husband) may explain her leaning towards soldier heroes! Prior to publication, Alison had been a finalist in competitions, including the shortlist of the Catherine Cookson Fiction Prize. Since 2007 she has published three historical novels set in the English Civil War: By the Sword, The King's Man and Claiming the Rebel's Heart. By the Sword won the 2008 Eppie Award for Best Historical Romance. She has also published the multi award nominated Gather the Bones and a historical time travel story, Secrets in Time, as well as an anthology of her published short stories. These days Alison is officially an empty nester, with an indulgent husband (and resident military expert) and two needy cats to keep her company.

Could Not Put It Down

Once I started reading the book, I did not put it down until the last page. Ms. Stuart is a masterful writer; it's hard to find another book to read after this one. I knew very little of the Cromwell period but Ms. Stuart draws you into the intrigue, danger, and horror of a civil war.

Don't miss this book or her other one of the same period, "By the Sword." Both are excellent.

just another example of why I love this author

I keep enjoying Stuart’s works, one after the other. I really need to get to the one I have on hold as from the trend she’s been following, I think I’ll enjoy it. She excels in this addition as well. Her emotional resonance and ability to take her readers on an amazing, romantic journey always pleases.

I haven’t had a historical romance take me on as powerful an emotional journey as this one did in a while. All the trials that Kit and Thamsine go through, from kidnapping to jail time in the Tower of London to near-death experiences, all build up to a truly jaw-dropping amount of crying and soaring on the wings of happiness. To me, high-emotional content is key to a historical romance succeeding, and Stuart pleases on that front.

She also, again, takes care with her historical details for setting her scene and background for her story. She details the lives of the regular Joe Blows in London, bringing that human-filled, stinky, and vibrant world to life. She also draws on little known plots against Cromwell and the Parliamentary government to give action and suspense to her romantic tale.

As I mentioned before, I love Kit’s and Thamsine’s romantic relationship. They play off each other well, sparking with tension and depth not present in every relationship. However, they’re also strong as individuals.

I loved Thamsin’s strength of character and courage, willing to brave living on the streets and degradation rather than marry the abusive man her father betrothed her to. Kit is a man caught in truly trying circumstances, forced into actions he’d rather not take due to the side of the conflict he was on and forced to do truly horrible things to those he loves as a result. They even lead to some deaths which are truly heavy burdens to bear for Kit. Yet, he meets this with strength of character and firm sense of honor that I enjoyed.

This is another work I’d highly recommend to historical romance lovers from Stuart’s talented pen/computer keyboard. Her characters are strong in their own right and play off each other to create at moving romance. She also backs that all up with great historical details. Don’t hesitate to pick this title up! It’s a great find.

Brilliant!

Thamsine Granville was hungry; she hadn’t eaten since the previous day and now, in the centre of a huge crowd of people waiting to see Oliver Cromwell pass by, she did something which she hadn’t fully thought through – and when she was snatched from disaster by a strong and determined young man she was frantic. But the entry into Thamsine’s life by the man, whose name was Kit Lovell meant unexpectedly her future changed. But was it for the better – or was it infinitely worse?

Kit Lovell lived life on the edge – he had always been one of the King’s men but with the King in exile in France he was at a loss. He made his money by winning at cards and when he couldn’t do that, his mistress Lucy, who was a wealthy widow, paid his way. But the plans of death and destruction that he was mixed up in were fraught with danger.

With Thamsine in fear of her life and running from an evil and cruel man, Kit took her to a place she would be safe. But far from being safe, Thamsine found herself all too soon tangled in Kit’s affairs – with lies and betrayal between Kit and Thamsine, she knew she couldn’t trust him, but she knew her heart was betraying her. The dangers, and the soldiers, were moving closer – would Kit’s decisions be the worst he had ever made? Was the result to be death?

I absolutely loved and devoured The King’s Man by Aussie author Alison Stuart. This is the second in the "Guardians of the Crown" series, with the first being By The Sword which I also loved. Steeped in the history of mid-1600s England and France, I loved the two main characters; Thamsine had an incredible strength and fortitude while Kit was outwardly strong and inwardly soft. I love this author’s writing and can’t wait for her next book (whatever it may be) – she has historical fiction down to a fine art! Highly recommended to all.

About the Author
Jenny Allen is the author of Blood Lily and Rose of Jericho as well as several published poems and short stories in University journals. She also spent time as a reporter and photographer for the Chattanooga State College newspaper. Ms. Allen has studied forensic science, done extensive research in world cultures and myths, and is currently pursuing a degree in Registered Nursing. Her background as a published photographer and an award winning artist helps her visualize the scenes when writing, contributing to her unique style of vivid imagery. Born on a Royal Air base in Lakenheath England, she left the U.K. at the age of 9 to travel all over the United States and Germany. She turned to writing poetry after the suicide of a close friend in her sophomore year of high school. She graduated to short stories and narratives until, in 2002, she wrote her first novel, Lilith in London, which was never published. Over the course of twelve years the novel underwent a lengthy metamorphosis, eventually becoming her first published novel, Blood Lily. Jenny Allen attributes her success to the people in her life that provided not only encouragement, but constructive criticism including longtime friends Jason Ratcliff, Emily Kirk, Matthew Pace, Travis Tramble, Adrian Stranik, Chris Howard and Robin Sullivan. Currently, Ms. Allen is a single mother living in York, Pennsylvania, writing between semesters of college. She hopes to continue her book series while pursuing her medical career.

It had more twists and turns than the fur on a poodle. And who the "bad guy" turned out to be was shocking! Her eulogy had me in tears. Thank you Jenny Allen for another wonderful book!! I hope this is not the last!!!!

Gardner asks and answers questions against particular historical backdrops. Why does Nephi appear to be so Christian so long before Christ, and why does his particular time period in Jerusalem help answer that question? Why do Nephi apostate groups from different times appear to adopt the same religion? Why does the Book of Mormon end around A.D. 400? Why not earlier or later? The answers are developed by looking at the Book of Mormon as history in the context of what has become known of Mesoamerican history. Along the way, Gardner also looks at the problem of anachronisms, DNA, and some popular “proofs” of the Book of Mormon that need to be abandoned.
